Festive Sale Checklist for Marketplace Sellers (Diwali 2026)
A practical Diwali and festive sale checklist for Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho sellers: stock, listings, pricing, deals, dispatch capacity and returns readiness.
The festive season is the busiest stretch of the year for most Indian online sellers. Orders can jump quickly, and every weak spot in your operations shows up at the same time: stock runs out, dispatch slips, returns pile up and account health takes a hit.
Most festive problems are predictable. Work through this checklist a few weeks before the sale dates your marketplace announces, not the night before.
1. Stock: plan for your best sellers first
You don't need to stock up on everything. Focus on the products that already sell well and the ones you plan to promote.
- Pull last year's festive sales and your last 60–90 days of data. Look at which SKUs sold, not which ones you hope will sell.
- Rank SKUs into three groups: hero products (push hard), steady sellers (keep in stock) and slow movers (don't reorder, consider clearing).
- Talk to suppliers early. Raw material and courier capacity get tight across the industry during this period.
- If you use FBA or Flipkart's fulfilment, check inbound appointment availability and any festive inbound cut-offs in Seller Central or Seller Hub. Stock that is stuck in transit to a warehouse cannot be sold.
2. Listings: fix them before traffic arrives
A listing that converts poorly on a normal day will waste even more traffic during a sale.
- Check titles, bullets and images on your top 20 SKUs. Are they clear, accurate and complete?
- Make sure every variant (size, colour, pack) is correctly grouped, so shoppers don't land on an out-of-stock child listing.
- Add festive-relevant use cases where true, such as "gift box included" or "suitable for Diwali gifting". Don't add keywords that don't describe the product.
- Resolve any suppressed, inactive or blocked listings now. Fixes can take time to go live.
3. Pricing: know your floor before you discount
Heavy discounting without knowing your margin is the fastest way to have a "record" sale and still lose money.
| Cost to include | Where to find it |
|---|---|
| Product cost + packaging | Your purchase records |
| Marketplace commission and fees | Current rate card in Seller Central / Seller Hub / Supplier Panel |
| Shipping and fulfilment fees | Marketplace fee preview or calculator |
| Expected returns and RTO cost | Your own past return data |
| Ad spend per order | Your ads dashboard |
| GST | Confirm treatment with your CA |
Fees vary by category, price band and fulfilment method, and they can change, so always use the current rate card rather than last year's numbers. Once you know your true cost per unit, set a minimum price for each SKU and stick to it.
4. Deals and coupons: apply early, read the rules
Each marketplace runs its own deal formats, such as Lightning Deals and coupons on Amazon, and sale-event offers on Flipkart and Meesho.
- Check eligibility in your seller panel. Deal eligibility usually depends on things like rating, price history and stock.
- Read the terms carefully, including any deal fees and the price conditions the marketplace applies.
- Don't raise your price just before a sale to show a bigger discount. Marketplaces look at price history, and it can make you ineligible or affect trust.
5. Dispatch capacity: the part most sellers underestimate
Late dispatch and cancellations during a sale can damage your account health for weeks after.
- Estimate your peak daily orders and check whether your team, packing material and space can handle it.
- Pre-pack fast movers where possible, with labels ready to print.
- Stock up on packing material: boxes, tape, poly bags, bubble wrap, labels and printer ink.
- Plan staff shifts, including weekends and holidays around the sale.
- Update handling time in your panel if you genuinely need more time. It is better to promise realistically than to dispatch late.
- Confirm pickup timings with your courier or marketplace logistics partner.
6. Returns readiness: protect your money
More orders means more returns. Set up the process now so you don't lose money on damaged, used or wrong items that come back.
- Record an unboxing video of every return you open, with the shipping label visible.
- Check each return against the original order: product, quantity, condition, serial numbers where relevant.
- Keep a simple sheet of returns that need a claim, such as Amazon SAFE-T claims or Flipkart SPF claims, and file them within the policy window shown in your panel.
- Track reimbursements for FBA or marketplace-warehouse stock that is lost or damaged.
7. Account health: check it before and during the sale
Check your account health dashboard before the sale and every day during it: late dispatch, cancellations, negative feedback and policy warnings. A quick reply to a complaint or notification can stop a small issue becoming a big one. Our note on what Amazon account management covers explains why this day-to-day monitoring matters.
8. Ads: decide the budget in advance
Clicks usually cost more during festive peaks because many sellers compete for the same searches. Decide your daily budget, the SKUs you will advertise and your stop-loss rules before the sale starts. If you want help running sponsored ads, see our marketplace ads service.
